I agree. It's just what I had around to test with. I plan on concentrating on all the visible hardware later, once the lathe is put back together. I don't want to do all the OCD projects at once, need inspiration to keep puttering with it.

So apparently there is a change in design over the years. The ones I got from mooserowv do not fit my 44 10EE. ...

At some point over the years, Monarch must have slightly increased the size of the bore for the sight glasses. Its too bad as the ones that mooserov made look amazing!

I think that the sight-glass design changed with the introduction of the square-dial. Round-dials don't have the disk behind the glass to make the oil level easier to see. The older style sight-glass was used on some of the larger lathes after the change. Here's a thread that has some diagrams and a discussion about the differences:

Headstock flush with kerosene-sight glass removal

I have drained the headstock oil from my CW and found some areas that are holding oil. In the downloaded manual I see where it is recommended to change the oil once per year and flush with kerosene. Wont there be kerosene left in the areas that are now holding oil? I'm thinking I should leave...
