Any value to a Mits DWC110SZ parts machines or just scrap?

The Mits DWC110-SZ Ive had since 2013 hasnt ran the last couple years due to a couple issues hitting one after another... and after dumping more and more money into it (and my tech passing away) - I called it quits. So now I want the space back for something else. Over the years, I have purchased 2 other machines as "parts machines" to keep this one running, and so you can imagine the space I have clogged up in stuff :D

I see very little in the way of SZ parts on the various auction sites, and what I do see, seems to stick around a long time - though I suspect its because of the asking prices.

Is it even worth the effort to try and sell it, or should I just plunk it outside til the scrapper truck comes? The part of me that has paid a chunk of money to get to the point of almost fixed says "hell yeah there is value there", but realist in me says, "yeah value to me, but not likely anyone else because its an all new risk to them".

If you think it has value - do you have any suggested places I should list it? Besides the auction site and the PM for-sale forum - maybe there is a company out there that buys parts machines or something that I dont know about?

Thanks
Wade

When I scrapped a Mits Sinker of the same vintage, I pulled the boards and servo amps. Over a few years I did sell couple of the servo amps and 1 board thru Ebay.

I was glad I could help a few people out there. Been in that same spot.

Yeah, sort of feeling like there are some things that might be of advantage to some folks... but how to find them without spending more money to find them than yould make when you do. Stuff like two sets of servo and stepper drives (the X/Y units both have two of the three cards replaced with new), and then of course rack cards out the wazzu and such.

I may have to look at the ebay thing... or maybe toss up a craigslist post for grins.

I knew, buying that old of a machine back in 2013, Id end up basically in this situation, but it still sorta sucks having that much money in what is essentially scrap - or - having to dump a chunk into it, just to see what it will cost to fix, and then wondering what is the next thing to go out if it does get fixed. Probably best to just stop the bleeding... :/
By the way SteveEx30 - thanks again for all the help back when I had just gotten this machine. You and a couple other guys here were a big help getting me up and running with it. And much of that help transferred to the FX10 I got a few years ago. I appreciate you!

Pretty sure it's free to list the Ebay ad. I just listed everything under 1 ad, really was simple. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

And glad I could help back then, always willing to atleast try and help a fellow Mits owner.

I bought a '93 DWC110-SZ back in July. I have not had any issues out of it yet, but it appears that the only value left in these old machines is in the components like others have mentioned. I paid ~$3k for the machine, manuals, software discs, spare parts, 0.004" wire kit, ect. I am unsure of the exact hours, if anyone knows how to find that in the controller I would be very interested in learning how to find that info. I am currently a one man shop on a shoe string budget I would encourage parting it out to give the rest of us a chance to keep our dinosaurs alive!

On the hours, I dont think there is any way to know. The hours can be set, reset, and so on. Only time they would be accurate, is if they had a record of the hours and every time they replaced the battery, reinstalled software, etc... they had the previous hours available to input when doing the software install. I tried keeping track of just my hours on the SZ when I got it... between battery dying or reinstalling and forgetting to check the hours - it just never happened.

I have been thinking about parting out... but I dont have the space to let the whole machine sit, and if I dismantle everything and put the undesired metal in the scrap pile - Id have no way of checking/showing that something works. Not to mention spending a couple days getting to that point - only on the hopes I might sell a part or two? I dont know... not looking to get into being a "ebay sales man" and continually list things that never sell.

Thanks for the input... Ill keep thinking on it til I get time to get it moved and have to decide what Im doing with it. Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and try and sell a couple of the more sought after things on the bay (X/Y&Z servo, U/V stepper drives, Floppy drive) and see what they do - and make a decision after that on the other stuff.

Thanks again.
Wade
