Anyone know more about this lathe/valve grinder?

I don't think any of those guesses are correct. What did the company where it came from do? If you don't know, name the company, someone here might know.

Edit: Thank you for updating the pics, much better! Interesting little machine, no idea what it was for, hope someone can figure it out.
No it def is those. Someone one Told me for model A cars? It's a kwik way. Idk I'd like to fine someone that's use one or such. But, I'm thinking they'd have to be about 70-80 years old. lol

That is a really neat machine. Not clock/watch making equipment.
Does look like some kind of grinder

I believe it is a Kwik way machine if you go to their web site the machine they show for the 1920 machine looks very similar. I believe this machine has more options on it ,what they are for I can't tell you. Bill

Can you provide a link to what you are seeing? I'm looking at the Irontite/Kwik-way page and the 1920's machine looks nothing like it.

I can see why someone might think its a valve grinder, but I don't think that is correct, and I'm not far from that age group. I'm thinking its some type of gear cutter, maybe for clock/watch work?
Not at all. Came from a family of car buffs. Nothing to do with clocks/watches.

There's a wheel guard visible, grinding wheel not present. The carriage is designed to traverse the workpiece past the wheel. The long splined shafts allow drive to both ends of the workpiece as it traverses. Smart money says this is a cylindrical grinder.

The combined readership of this page havent seen anything like it...........so its a very specialised machine for doing "something?".........and a costly machine too ,which IMHO rules out simple functions like valve facing.
I think tho that this is just one of its functions..

So you think for 14.95 that's a full manual on it? Because I was told all documentation on older units were lost in the flood!!

The description of said manual "This is the only documentation we have on the very old "Multi-Purpose Machine" made by Cedar Rapids Engineering back in the early 1900's. It does not contain a parts list. It claims to be an Operations Manual. The original manual was smaller than a full sheet of paper. It was scanned onto letter sized sheets to make printing easier."

You will have to buy it and tell us what it will do:D
