I have an Atlas Copco compressor that I'm having an issue with and was wondering if anyone would have an idea of what is going on with it. It is a 2017 G11-FF screw compressor, it has about 3500 hrs on it now. What it is doing is, it will start up and load until it hit's it programmed pressure (127 psi) and when it goes to it's unload cycle, the blow off valve will open up and spray a fine mist of oil and smoke out. It does this sporadically, sometimes when I start it up in the morning sometimes 4 or 5 hours later. I had the company that sold it to me come and look at it twice and it never would do it while they were here so they didn't do anything to fix it. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

Too much oil? It could be the blow off valve is bad and opening at lower pressure than it should.
Oil is fine, it always had a yearly service by the company that sold it to us.
Replace the blow off valve.

I guess I need to start with the blow off valve and go from there. For some reason I had it in my head that blow off valves don't go bad (or at least not very often) and a blow off valve would be the cheapest solution if that's the problem.

More likely you need a new oil separator element...........with the big Atlas screw ,I used to replace the separator element every oil change ...1000hrs.............same with the Sullairs and the Dresser.
