Sorry if inappropriate to ask.

Do you know what this old Barnes sliding gag bed lathe might be worth (sorry, my brother called it a split bed)? I don't know the year or the exact model. As pictured, including steady rest, 3 jaw chuck, 4 jaw chuck, tail stock. Has automatic feed but doesn't work. 110 electric motor with forward and reverse switch.

It has been in my family's small business 60+ years and used every so often up until recently. The business has recently closed and will be selling, need to put a value on it.

More pics here: Shared album - Chad Ernst - Google Photos

Thanks

Thank you, that term, sliding gap bed" at least google's right. "split bed" was what my brother kept calling it when we were talking about it.

Interesting lathe, thanks for posting. Sliding gap bed obviously adds value along with the chucks. I guess you have the change gears as well? There does seem to be lot of wear in the ways (maybe 100 thou or more??) My guess is that unless you're in a machinery desert, finding someone that wants it and not just the 4-jaw might be a challenge.

Out of curiosity, could we get more information on the horizontal mill in the background?

I think the only thing it was ever used for in our shop was occationally cutting keyways. It is going to be looking for a new home too. My dad bought it from a guy that was closing his shop 30 years ago. It weighs 3000 lbs according to the writing in paint marker on the side (I think my handwriting). Located in Southeast Missouri.
