Bearing search

Would anyone know how I can find a cross match for a New Departure 88504-A19 ball bearing? I'm trying to repair a Montgomery Ward wood lathe. I found a replacement ND bearing in the UK but its pretty pricey even without tax and shipping. I'm not concerned about keeping the original brand, I'd just like to have it up and running. Thanks for any guidance you can give.

Have you called Zoro/Grainger? A few years ago I called them to ask about a cross. The lady took my original part number and provided about 6 or 8 of their part numbers to check on their website. One of them was just what I needed. But the website search did not show me any of those when I searched using the original part number. Customer service seems to have a much better cross reference that customers can't access directly.

That bearing number pops up all over the place. No idea what the A19 suffix is but, in the US, the base number seems to be available. Do you have any dimensions or features to add to the part number? Type of seals? Extended inner race? Type of lubricant?

Search on WC88504 bearing. It's for a wood lathe, I doubt that will call for sapphire balls, ceramic races & Viton seals .. sorry to be sarci ..it's the hayfever.

I have no idea what I'm looking for or why the A19 suffix. I see some with felt seals and some with extended inner races that come up with that part number. Don't want to lead him astray.

I'd guess the extended inner race would be THE requirement, any kind of seal ought to keep the wood dust out. Can't imagine a wood lathe being finicky with tightly specified clearances or anything like that. A19 ????

NTN used to have a nice search function. Just input id,od, and thickness. You really need to pull the bearings and verify extended race or not.
No reason that the two bearing will be identical. I would expect the bearings near the work will likely be larger
My Walker turner used extended inner races, but the outer race was just marked with the normal number. they were custom and hard to find. I believe NTN was the only modern day source as of ten years ago.

6204 ( 20 x 47 x 14) is quite similar, 88504 is 20 x 47 x 17.75 same OD, same ID, different thickness (smaller thickness in 6204) so you´ll have to make some washers.

Ive done the same with some machines that had extended race bearings, just matched sizes and added a spacer. Still working fine.

Try Motion Industries, they have hundreds of stores around the country.

I had a New Departure bearing needing replacement in a Delta shaper spindle. The bearing place recommended on the OWWM site wanted $42 each. Motion had a replacement for $18 for the pair (same exact Japanese bearing as the higher priced place).

Delta or Rockwell owned ND so it's not uncommon to see the extended race bearings in old woodworking machines.
