Besly 214 40" grinder

Anyone ever seen one of these or know what they were used for originally? It is a Besly 214 grinder with 40" grinding stones on each end. There is a feed wheel to feed our parts into it that is opposite of each grinding stone. We mold friction material for various applications, but this grinder is used to grind the OD of our arced slabs to remove the shiny/smooth mold skin that is left behind from the molding process. These arced slabs are typically used in cranes as a drum braking system on the turret. We mold quiet a few of them and then they are attached to the large shoes to create drum brakes. I also attached a picture of a lining for size reference. The maintenance team is currently working on changing out the belts on it, and as far as anyone around he knows this has never been done on this machine while we have owned it. That isn't saying much, because there is no record of when we actually bought the machine. I am just curious on any history anyone can come up with.

It's like a double-disk grinder, but the opposite. :)

I've not seen that design, but perhaps used for snagging iron or steel castings to make a face flat before further machining? If so, rather have some dedicated fixturing to pass the part over the wheel than hand feed it...

Thats what I am saying! Double disk grinder but opposite. I cant figure out why this was a thing or what it was for, but this isnt a one off because we actually have another one. This one is a gardner NO 223 but it has 20" grinding wheels without the feeding wheel on the table.
