Various states of the main engine overhaul, KT50 Cummins 16 cylinder.

Starboard Main engine. Vee stripped down, cylinder heads and cylinder packs(piston and liners) removed. Oil pan dropped down in the bilge:

Cylinder packs and heads on. Oil pan up. Starting to build the vee with exhaust manifolds:

Port Main at about the spot in its overhaul:

Vee built with heat shields and turbos. Valve covers and cam covers on. Tune up done. and new crankshaft dampers:

Texas, thanks for posting those cool pics! My dad was sent to Detroit Diesel after Navy basic. He was a I believe machinist mate(?) during WWII serving on oilers and and what he called "baby flat tops", mostly is the South China Sea. I'm guessing the equipment he maintained was similar to what your showing. He passed away in 2005. I do have a few pics of the last ship he served on, the USS Steamer Bay (CVE-87).
