Anybody know if this is coming to the US? Looks pretty interesting, 550 mm x 400 mm x 400 mm travel.

I watched the video and was struck by the amount of cutter harmonics I heard, which I usually put down to inadequate spindle stiffness. JMO... Needs more coolant flow and/or pressure too.

Machine dynamics and travel look nice otherwise.

The machine was announced last week in Japan. We will see it later this year. My thought is automation projects. Because it is a single table, hydraulic and pneumatic clamping is much cleaner.

There were two other machines announced that we will also see later this year.
An updated W1000 with 28 tools and extended Z stroke and the full five axis version of the M300.

Would have been sweet if it was like R-series with the turntable where you can at load one side while the machine is working on the other. Longer travel turntable machine with better chip management of a horizontal would be so sweet...

Andy,
Any idea of what the max workpiece length is supposed to be? I have a couple parts that are18-20 inches but I only work the ends and don't go any deeper than 3" from either end. As long as the part fits without hitting sheetmetal I would have plenty of reach for the tooling.

No B-axis though if it's a turntable.

I'd be curious too. The limiter on B-axis swing on most horizontals is the pallet changer. No pallet changer might actually be a benefit in this case.

Good point.

Also I'm thinking it makes more sense to add a pallet pool to a single pallet horizontal than a 2-pallet. I've always found pallet pools + the built-in 2 pallet changers to be redundant.

Are these 300mm pallets?

I have not seen the machine or seen a brochure. The table is 400mm, you can look at the specs in the link below. You will have to translate the page. https://www.brother.co.jp/product/machine/h550xd1/index.aspx

A) What is the app @ 3:00? A burnish tool of sorts?

B) Life must be as ridiculous in Japan as it is here.
Machinist has a bleeding hard hat on! :ack2:

The specs say the max standard swing diameter is 600mm, but depending on tooling and part configuration, you can get up to 800mm swing. We don’t have all the info yet, but I assume the 200mm difference has to do with the tool changer and managing potential interference.

Andy, Greg,

Any info on how much the Z is extended on the W1000 with 28tools? TIA.

Fred

They increased from 300mm to 380mm, and moved the spindle to minimum Z of 150mm off of the table (from 180mm), and gave the top end another 50mm of travel.

Is that a typo on the brother japan page or are they switching the base spindle from 10k to 12k? Showing 12k, 10kHT, and 16k.

No typo - the 10k "standard" is now 12k by the looks of it.

You won't see many of them in the US however - Yamazen only stocks the lowest-end spindle in the S500 and R450 kept around for automotive/casting customers who use these things like the old-school drill/tap centers for that kind of work (and the occasional garage shop guy). 16k Big+ is, for all intents and purposes, the US standard now.
