WOULD ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET CAD FILE FOR A VECTRAX BAND SAW THEY SELL AT MSC? I CONTACTED MSC AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ONE. I WANT TO MODIFY MY SAW TO MAKE IT A LITLE MORE USER FRIENDLY.

You have cad, you have saw. If you add tape measure you have drawing ingredients.

That saw - no idea which one you are talking about- is likely half metric and half proper units.

More important, what mods are you after? Most mods take drawings of new parts and only need field dimensions of existing areas.

what would possible make you think there's a cad file for such a beast?
and
if you can't modify your saw without having a cad file you've got some problems. lack of a cad file isn't one of them.

If you are using SolidWorks or Fusion 360 you can take a picture of the area you want to add\modify and import the pic to CAD, then you have the shape and details then along with your measurements you can model what you need, easy peasy

You can do that in Rhino too. The first thing I ever created in Rhino 23 years ago was a drill press in the shop. I took a picture and modeled off the picture. Like you said, pretty easy. I've also built machine models off of 2D prints in Rhino. Align the 3 views, extrude the curves, and where they intersect the CreateSolid command does just that.

What ever happened to using a scale\tape measure\calipers and a pencil and piece of paper?

Another lost art I guess these days. The art of getting off your arse and measurung parts the old school way. All the way from 500BC to now.

I'm not saying that using a picture imported into a CAD system isn't a valid tool to create geometry. Slight overkill for a bandsaw

Triumph406,

As I said "then along with your measurements you can model what you need" the picture is then right in front of your face for size\shape\form, no different than the old days of putting a piece of paper over the part and using the edge of your pencil to shade the edges of the part then adding your measurements to that.

Us model makers have all sorts of tricks and shortcuts to get the job done quickly............... :stirthepot:
