Hi,

We use the G76 canned cycle to cut straight and tapered threads all the time.

However, I saw on youtube somebody cutting a scroll with a grooving insert using a G32. We don't use G32 much in the shop I work at.

Is it possible to do this same operation using a G76?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes. You need to add an R value in the second line.

I don't believe so; not with a G76 Cycle. The "R" address is used to specify the amount of Taper in a tapered thread and one could argue that an amount of taper could be specified so that the cut plane is perpendicular to the Z axis, but the G76 Cycle is basically a longitudinal thread cutting cycle, starting from a Z coordinate, cutting to another Z coordinate.

There is no reference to cutting a Scroll or Face Thread in the Fanuc Manual with a G76 Threading Cycle, but its specifically described using G32.

Regards,

Bill

In G32, the lead is measured along the Z axis or the X axis, depending on whether the toolpath makes an angle less or more than 45 degree wrt the Z axis.
In G76, the lead is always measured along the Z axis. Therefore, it cannot be used for scroll threading.

I do not know about other brands, but Okuma does it with a G71 (transverse threading)
