Emco MAXIMAT V10 missing parts.

In an effort to build a decent home and prototyping shop I am looking for affordable machines in my area. In the process I have been offered a Maximat V10 (without P) for free. It is missing some components:
  • rack gear
  • saddle handle
  • all the components between the first two item above, I am guessing there is a gear on the handle on the other side of the apron.
  • probably some bushings for it.
Pictures soon to be posted here...

So the question is,.. anyone with such a machine to give me some details as to what I need to order/build. Probably latter since I know some shops in the area which can make those easily. Bushings, handles will make myself but specs would be nice but not necessary.

regards,
ns

I don't expect to find any replacement parts, rather I am expecting someone with the same lathe could tell me or take pictures as to what the parts look like and I will let them be made here at some local machine shop with a pfauter or since they are spur gears they could be made simply on a mill.

If I recall correctly those rack gears are m2 but I will have to remeasure them. Everything else is just a guess so any pictures would be very helpful.

Comparing photos on the link in post #5, I see that the aprons on the V10 and V10P are completely different. Looks like the P model has power cross feed, so the carriage gearing is much more complex.

Most crucial parts that I need to make are: 5, 13, 9.

I am not sure how reliable would be to count the teeth on the image, if I can make it out.

Probably a better idea is to measure the center distance between the bores for parts 5 and 9 and the distance from the bore for part 9 and the pitch line of the rack. Given the gear module, which can be measured from the rack teeth, the teeth numbers can be calculated, though you may have do a trial and error calculation to get the tooth count for parts 5 and 13, since the ratio is not given. For guessing the ratio, I would start with the exploded view, which looks like 1:2.

I have no first hand knowledge of the EMCO, but many Asian lathes were sold around the world in a dozen different brand names.

For example, we have an Asian import no one had ever heard of but turned out to be the same machine sold under Jet and Grizzly labels and thus parts were readily available.

For $75 I may just try and order it if the shipping is not prohibitively expensive.

ns.
At least you have the tooth count now, and can see that the module for the first gear set is different from the rack gear. It would be cheaper to ship just the parts you need if the seller would cooperate.

Or you could look into these two items, also US$75 for the two, and from the same seller:

Problem with pasting the link. Same seller in Ohio, USA has the handwheel and pinion.

If he will not ship to Europe, a PM member may be willing to help.

USPS padded plastic envelope would probably hold the handwheel and gears and cost US$45 to Sarajevo if the weight is under 4 pounds.

That seller has many Emco parts, might be worth a look for your other stuff:

Emco from the land of roos and shrimp on the barbie? Surely you jest!

Was I confusing Emco with Enco? If so, my bad.

I think so. Emco are just small machines from Austria, Europe, although it may be that brand new CNC machines are being built under that brand which are more professional and industrial then they where back when my lathe was built.

Enco I believe is Asian brand made sound and look like Emco though I may be wrong.

BTW, I contacted the seller on fleebay to see if he'll send to Sarajevo the three gears. if not I will try to let it be shipped to someone to US and then be sent to me, however, I don't think I will wait months for it, rather I let it be made.

Enco Mfg. was a Chicago manufacturer of high quality aftermarket turret tailstocks for most lathes, 4-way turret and quick-change tool posts for various size lathes and possibly some other products I have forgotten. At some point circa 1970, they expanded their business to import good quality tooling from France, Switzerland etc. Then they started importing various machine tools and smaller items from Taiwan. They rivalled MSC for inventory diversity and quality. Then Enco was sold to MSC and became pretty much MSC with a different name.

Enco was founded in 1940 by Nathan Usiskin. His step-son, Charles Usiskin became the owner of Enco and probably caused the expansions in the 1970-90 period. Charles died aged 60 in 1996 and Nathan died aged 97 in 2002. Enco was sold to MSC in 1997, soon after Charles died.
