Is there any way to tell mazatrol to turn from the center out? I can't for the life of me get it to, and I think I should be able to do this whole shape with the tool attached (turned 90 deg in a different station of course) just trying to get the programming aspect to behave

The way it wants to cut would be cutting on the trailing edge of the tool, even though it is setup correctly in the tool data

That type of tool cannot cut from center out if the part has no hole.

Yes, Mazatrol can cut from center out if using BAR FCE and program the starting X point as the smallest ID and create the geometry working towards X+.

However, the software will not generate a perfect toolpath if there is no hole in the center. If you start at X0, there will still be a tit leftover from the tool radius as this type of path will not start the tool below X0 at least on the older controls.

Thank you so much, that makes perfect sense! Always appreciate your knowledge.

I think if you did that then the outside would be incorrect. Pilot hole to at least make up for the insert radius makes sense to me

Yeah, you'd have to lie to it on both ends but ... lots of times we have to lie to the machine ;) mr phil, have you tried that ?
Yes. Lying to the machine is sometimes necessary. I try to avoid it when I can and just program it with a process that does not need any monkey business. Reason being when you get the next batch of parts 6 months later, you are scratching your head going what the hell was I doing here?
