Fadal Rigid Tapping

Quick question on Fadal VMC 15XT (88HS). Will rigid tapping grab the same thread if you need to go back in and tap deeper?

Yes it will if you use the same z start point

That is, the same R point (with reference to Fanuc), provided the job has not been unclamped.
Fanuc has a parameter to effect spindle orientation at the R point, which is needed for rework.

My Fadal 4020 with rigid tapping does. I often use it to tap a hole deeper than I am scared to do in one shot.

Can you not peck-tap rather than clear the hole and have to start again?

That is correct. Both partial and full retracts might be available in rigid tapping (it is there on Fanuc, with 20x speed for retraction as well as non-cutting forward motion).

Re-tapping may be needed for re-work.

I have never tried. I'll give it a shot on some pvc with a floating head just in case and report back
