Good morning.. I am getting a job to run 1 or 2 pieces of 4140 on the Fadal VMC 15xt. I do not run this machine much. I know this machine does not like heavy cuts.
I designed the part in Fusion 360 and will be doing some adaptive cutting. I am looking to check my speeds and feeds.
Here is what I have programmed.

3D adaptive roughing
Lakeshore carbide 1/2" 4 Flute endmill (Square corner)
500SFM
3819 RPM
45.83 IPM
.003 FPT
.062 WOC
.543 Depth of cut

2D Contour
Lakeshore carbide 1/2" 4 flute (.060 corner radius)
1 1/4 " Sickout
500 SFM
3819 RPM
41.25 IPM
.0027 IPT
.020 WOC Finish

2D adaptive
Lakeshore carbide 3/16 4 Flute (square corner)
1 1/8 stickout
325 SFM
6620 RPM
19.86 IPM
.001 IPT
.035 Step over
.125 depth cut

Coolant or Air?

Thanks for any help

About .025 step over and 50 ipm and coolant you are stepping over a little hard for that machine hope it helps you out

Maybe a little conservative on the sfpm and ipt but I'd say it's not bad.
If anything I'd change your stepover to 10% max.
Otherwise your speeds and feeds seem ok for that machine, maybe bump the feed up but that's about it.

Coolant is fine.

I’d say those numbers look good for a vmc15

Only thing is for tge finishing I’d slow it down a little and maybe take a shallower woc.

Another thing is use good holders like an endmill holder.

And I you may need to slow that 3/16 tool down some because it’s sticking pretty far out there

Thanks for all of the help. Hopefully I can get back on this today or tomorrow and see what kind of destruction I can do.
I had a feeling the 3/16 was a little fast.

I backed the 3/16 mill down and it came out pretty good. This is a one piece item and pretty happy with the result. I would post a pic, but its giving me a problem uploading.
Thanks for all the info and help.
