I routinely use a Compact Flash card and adaptor vie the front panel on my 18i, and have for 20 yrs now.
Scandisk Ultra II 1GB Only card that I have used for the last 20 yrs.

I recently got a card error on the machine.
Brought the card back into the office and it didn't go well in here either.
I found that if I rebooted my PC, that it would read the card OK, and then I copied it to a hard drive.
I t appeared that the PC saw the card about every other re-boot after that.

I ordered in a new card (same card) and reader/adaptor for the PC as well.
Works fine on the PC, and at first it worked OK on the machine too.

Today I go to load a program, and I got a 1010(?) alarm.
Put the original card in and got a 99 alarm.

So I dumped everything back off of the new card, and got the same.

I just put the empty new card in just now, and no alarm now. ???
So I put just the programs that I need on it (dual path) and it loaded them fine.

What is going on? (bad?)

We have a stack of those little Flash cards that have failed over the years. Fortunately they're cheap enough.

We also had one of the actual plugs next to the screen go bad on our mill (31i) that had to be replaced. They're not even terribly expensive even though they say 'fanuc' on them. If memory serves, around $80 bucks and easy to put in.

New card, only 4 programs loaded on card at this time.

Path1 went in fine
Path2 is throwing an "002 TV Parity Alarm"

Card was not pulled or even touched in the mean time.
Tried several times. Card out and in. Adapter out and back in. No change.

That program is old and semi frequent.

I can easily load Path2 by hand, but would like to figger this thing out.

OK, so I fetched a new Compact Flash Card, and did not get much better results.

So I fetched a new adaptor = SSDD

But now I realize that the new CF card doesn't read well even on the PC.
Bad reader there too?

The least common denominator here appears to be that the new card is a POS?

So, for nigh on 20 yrs I had this 1.0GB Sandisk Ultra II card.
I found the same card and bought that again. (different sticker on front now-days)

Has anyone else had issues with this card?
Is there some other card that we like better these days for Fanuc 18i apps?

I have a couple sandisk compact flash cards in my drawer, Sandisk ultra 2.

The 1gb used to work. for a few years. then it didn't. Makes the little red "busy status" light on my card reader solid red for a minute before the computer prompts me to insert a disk.

The 4gb never worked on the cnc. Works on the pc though.

The current cf card I have in my adapter has the label peeled off of it, no idea who made it. 128mb card. Appears to be pretty old.

The older 18i series are picky about the cards capacity and formatting. 32MB max. Fat12 file system.
Format the cards in the control. If windows says there are issues with the cards after you go from CNC to PC, do not let windows 'repair' the card. Windows tries to change the binary header on the card to track if it was 'removed' cleanly. This is not workable on the Fanuc side.

And yes, I have a drawer of cards that have stopped working. Some last years, Some last weeks.
If they fail the format in the Fanuc control, they are definitely bad.
