Fanuc 3T-F on a Nakamura Slant -I need some help

Hi all,

I have a new to me lathe and first one that is "industrial". I have some experience with LinuxCNC and manual turning.
Have been spending a lot of time researching this controller and 6T as I have seen threads that they are similar. I do have some manuals but some are missing pages and others don't seem well written.

1. I can ZRN the machine. When doing so the POS screen reads Relative U -12, W 4 ; Absolute X -12, Z 4 ; Machine X 0, Z0.(in mm) I try to X Cancel, Z Cancel to zero these out (doesn't work) I can Cancel U,W. I notice a G28 U0 W0 works in MDI whether I cancel those at home or not. Also, I notice that I can go into a manual mode and move the Z further another 4inches before over travel alarm.
Are these behaviors correct? Can I change the Z/W ZRN point further back to get more travel? Is Machine coord in mm okay if I program in inches?

2. This machine does have FAPT and it seems to be working. I have searched everywhere but cannot find manuals for this model or tutorials on FAPT. I have found a 3T-D manual that shows FAPT content. Would it be worthwhile getting at $150?

I'm excited to learn and start using this machine. it was at a price that was too good to turn down even at this age.

Home position does not restrict tool movement. You can go beyond that even in AUTO mode. It is mainly used as a safe tool-change position.
If is, however, possible to change the home position.

After ZRN switch to MDI and type in '"G50 Z0", Input then Start.See if the POS has changed to Z0. I have a 3T and a 6T and they are enough different to need different cheat sheets. LCNC does not have a few of the capabilities as a Fanuc control. I have a Hardinge lathe with LCNC on it and it has paid for itself many times over. I am waiting for 2.9 with G70,71, and 72 and a few other goodies.

Go to your work shift page and check your work offset values. Good chance these are set to the x-12. and Z4. you are seeing on your position screen after homing. To clear the these- hit Z> cancel and X> cancel. They should both go to zero at that point. Go back and rehome- pos should be 0.0

Thanks for the replies, I will try them out. Dan from Oakland- I don't believe this has a work shift page. On all the POS pages, only U,W can be zero'd with the cancel button. I can G50 X, Z.

I am hoping to follow the 6T notes on using the tool offsets as geometry offsets (not wear) and using G50 Z0 as my part touch-off point.

I can deal with the machine zero being -12, -4 knowing that it is safe tool change area and that I have another 5" in Z I can move to programmatically.

Now, on to FAPT, anybody know of any early FAPT documentation out there?
