463 n AXIS : SEND SLAVE DATA FAILED

Because of an FSSB communication error, the servo system could not receive correct data.

OK, well that doesn't mean anything to me. ???

I have never seen this alarm before.
Popped up on Path 2 on 18i.
Both X2 and Z2
Re-booted a cpl times, and remained.

Left it down while I poured through the Maint Manual, but found no listing for that alarm.
Google found several pages listing that alarm, but all any of them say is just what I have in quotes above.

15 minutes later it is now up and cycling again.

Machine has been powered down for the last 2-3-4 months.
Was needing repairs and just no time. Now made top of the list.
Had to replace a cpl batts (with lantern batts) and re-set HOME on 4 axi's last night.
And then this _ this morning.

Anyone have any experience with this alarm?

Been running fine ever since.
AND I had been wrenching on, and setting it up, for the previous 2 days, and no issues there either.

???

Had this pop back up 2wice so far today.

Called Fanuc to see what they had to say about it, and the voice there told me that it was per the fiber optic cable communications.

I wiggled the connections on the amps, and so far hasn't done it since, but that's only been a few hours or so.
Not sure that "good connections" are a going concern in "optics", but will see.

It throws alarms on both X2 and Z2 at the same time, but not the other axi's, and the optics are daisy chained, so my guess is that it is NOT a connection issue, and will likely play Musical Amps soon, to see if the issue migrates.

Updating this thread for future search porpoises - especially since there is hardly anything pertaining to this alarm comes up on Google, so I expect any future searches to end up here.

OK, so have still had issues with this, but that machine had not been needed a whole lot for a while, so it didn't git the grease. However, my troubles had progressed the other day. My Slave alarm had worsened to the point that my CRT was black, with a couple of other codes on it.

972 NMI Occured on other module
Slot 01
926 FSSB Alarm <sub

and

BEF-21

I broke down and called Fanuc as I expected that I was going to be needing a board for the control, but the voice there said that if the X2/Z2 amp is bad, that it could end up throwing this code. 50/50 chance whether the amp or the daughter board(s) in the control.

So, after a few hours of dinking with the amps and whatnot, having had the cabinet doors open and the A/C turned off, and no resolution, we got Fanuc scheduled for 2 days out.

After this - the CRT was still up, and so I decided to see if it would stay up long enough to get the 4 axi's that I had had the amps out - homed. Yep, got that all done...

Well, I guess I'll work towards setting up the next job. Got that all done as well, and then proceeded to run a few parts yet that evening.

Over supper the first evening, and over night that night, 2wice - the Slave alarm came back up. 1 axis once, and maybe 2 axi's the other time? A quick power cycle clears them, and I told Fanuc that maybe we need to hold off on that service call for now?

Here we are a week later, and it has not hiccuped again since.
The doors are still open, and the A/C is still off. (we are having a very comfortable summer - never mind what you see on TV)

Running parts right this minute.

So maybe I need to turn the A/C up a smidge?
Never heard of it being too cold in the cabinet?

Also, this does tell me that the problem is likely in the amp, as the control is in the pendant - so it is not in the A/C at all.
