Recently acquired a 1980 matsuura mc500v mini master mill. Yasnac 3000g controller system m5g. Information has been difficult to find. I have both the operators manual and the yasnac controller manual, however there are things that differ due to year revisions. I need instruction on setting my tool length right now. If anyone has the same unit and would be willing to provide a bit of "tech support" id be most appreciative.

On the one we used to have there was a "measurement" button and a "write" button. So, if you're picking up tool one, with the head home hit the measurement button, go to the offset page and make sure the cursor on the H01 line, jog or handle down and touch off the workpiece and hit the write button. The head will automatically go home and the cursor will move to the H02 line. If you're going to pick up tool 2, the go to MDI, call tool 2 to the spindle and repeat. The only difference this time is you don't have to hit the measurement button again, it'll still be active.

Volitan, your procedure fits with the manuals explanation. The buttons you refer to would be in the center of the control panel for my machine, however there is a orange metal matsuura decal placed over the holes for those buttons, right under where TLM is printed on the control panel. I have seen auction sites showing pictures of machines set up the same. It must be some revision, but I can find no instructions. the machine is a 1980, with 2 line LED display, no CRT, figuring it out has been a bit of a challenge. Anyone else running one of these??

Thank you for your shot at it.

yes, identical to my manual because I pulled it off that site too. Maybe Im just missing a few things- its been about 10 years since I have any real involvement with cnc work, newer mazaks, haas' and such. Take a look at my control panel, center of it you will see the MATSUURA logo where the "measurement" and "write" switches should be... that is the first point of confusion- they never existed on my unit. The second is more general procedure- I have 6 tools loaded, each one has been touched off an indicator mounted on a gauge block to the same reference height, I now have a list of 6 negative values for the Z axis, are those values input as a tool length measurement? How then do I get them to reference the zero point on the work piece?

Please pardon my ignorance, and thank you very much for your assistance

I have not worked on a YASNAC this old. I've been under the impression that before work offsets G92 was used to set offsets. It sets the offset at the machine current location. I don't use this command so my knowledge of it is limited.

Been away from the shop and computer for a couple weeks. At this point, I have touched six tools off to a gauge block, recorded those values into the memory as a tool length value...(Offset page, tool number ##, H value as taken from position page during touch off) so at this point, each tools point should be established at the same "zero point", Right? Or at the gauge height, should I set TLO to zero?
