I like your binder! I've got a 1978 loadstar 1700 4x4 I'm making into extended cab... slowly. I have either a 5.9 cummins or m11 with 10 speed to drive it.

You've got yourself some nice gear. The crane is awesome.

Another old fan of Binders here.
I had a 1965 1600 for over 20 years.
345 gasser 5x2.
It had relatively low miles but the cab was rotted away.
I set a 48 Diamond T cab on it. Drove it up the AlCan, lived in the camper for 3 years then drove it back home. The photo is just after I arrived in Anchorage in 1983. Was 30 then.
Has 8.25x20s on it in the photo.
I put larger dia tires on it - don't remember the size now. It would do 75 on the freeway real easy.
I "restored" it a couple of times.
Fun time in my younger days.

Sadly, no new lathe progress outside of cleaning.

Adding some more "junk" to the pile as I continue to wait for my new shop to finish up.

This is an old Dake 75H I can't believe the mass of it vs. the newer stuff. The Bethlehem Steel logo is epic too.

Hi all,

I'm thinking through my shop layout and setup for parts cleaning. I'll have a 5-ton bridge crane, so I'm able to move big parts into a tank. I currently have a traditional part cleaner with a brush kit and am looking to add a larger hot tank using caustic soda. Is there anything else I should look at?

Most of the time I'm using the smaller parts washer with hand brush. I typically use mineral spirits or varsol in it.

A hot tank i like for some paint removal, though the solutions I'm using these days seem to remove the 2nd or 3rd paint jobs, while leaving most of the original paint there. Also pretty good for heavier crud.

If you're doing something like heavy equipment or farm tractors, might want some sort of an outside pressure wash area to get bulk mud and such off. Maybe metal grating over a concrete pit, something you can catch oil and grease without it washing onto the land outside.

If solely working inside, and dealing with a lot of oil that might need to drained, i might consider how I'm going to deal with that, be it drip pans, buckets, or something that rolls around.

I'm in the same boat with the small washer. I've been going back and forth on getting a hot tank and using caustic soda. I'm sure someone will chime in that it can burn your skin. I know. Have you ever used a torch? I'll likely sleep on it and pick a tank up if I find a good deal.

I like the pressuring washing pit idea. I need to think through that and get it on the want list.

I'm currently working on the blasting stations. I have a small siphon setup and am working on a pressure pot setup for stainless beads. Pressure pots need a lot of air. I'm running a 5HP 2-stage and have about 16CFM continuous. I picked up a 500-gallon tank last week for $300. I'm trying to figure out where to mount it in the shop. I can run a 1/8" nozzle for about 30 minutes straight, which is solid for most indoor work.

The crane is up. Hopefully, I will start moving equipment in 60 days. First, I've got to do floors, insulation, power, and liner sheets, and then I'll go back to the lathe.
