Two pins in one joint. This solution might be specific to the lace kit I was using and/or how I attached the laces. The end result for me was without two pins each side of the belt at the hinge was allowed to move a little out of line. With two pins the belt on each side of the hinge stayed straight and tracked straight.
That's a pretty good trick. Of course, I don't have proper pins - I'm just using lengths of string trimmer cord. Two work better than one.
