After David Soul wacked the drug mobster and the two naked kids, he went down to the parking garage and shot Harry's cop friend.
He removed the silencer by rotating and pulling it off the barrel. Is that bs? I know the silent shots in the movie are bs. Can't really
silence a open frame revolver like that.

AFAIK a spring loaded bayonet type attachment that locks onto the front sight.

You are correct that a normal revolver with a cylinder gap can not be silenced. A gas seal type like the Nagant can be. And then there is the issue that this was a .357 and unless he swapped out subsonic ammo there would likely be a loud crack from the bullet.

A couple years ago at the range one guy asked a couple of us to stop shooting so he could do a suppressor demonstration for friends without hearing protection. He demonstrated (in a 9mm semi-auto pistol) regular and subsonic ammunition with and without a viscous gel in the suppressor. The regular ammo without gel had a noticeable crack that was the loudest, about like stepping on a large branch and the subsonic with gel was the quietest with the first shot quiet enough to not draw attention, actually close to silent.

Back in the day,the gangsters always wrapped their 2" barrel 38s in a pillow before bumping off the stoolie ........does this work ? maybe it worked better in the days of feather pillows?.

That happened in the Godfather #2 when Dinero shot the neighborhood crook who sponged money off the working people.
The pillow caught on fire.

Silencers come to mind when people rip me off. :ninja:

I'd think the blast from the cylinder gap would be tiny in comparison to the muzzle. Depends on the width of the gap. I rebuilt an old Super Blackhawk, and set the barrel back a turn to set the gap at .001. It stays amazingly cleaner than any of my other revolvers.

I think S&W spec is 003 to 007......my brother set back his K38 to just clear, but had to ease it out a bit .........his K38 has fired so many rounds that the top strap is noticably cut away.....and he uses 2.5 grs of Bullseye, which is just more than a pipsqueak load.

Hollywood is notorious for not getting firearms related information correct!
They do what works for the prop department not what is accurate.
The majority of the public doesn’t know anything about firearms let alone Class 3 in particular suppressors!
