Good employee with bad attitude - need some sage advice

It doesn't sound like he is a good employee at all. It sounds like he is a bad employee who might happen to do good work. Having a 2 man shop where the subordinate thinks he's Genghis Khan would make for some very long days. It is your shop. Whether or not you allow someone to make you miserable in your own shop seems like a no-brainer.

I learned early in my management career that it's not the people that you fired that make your life miserable.

It's the people that you should have fired but didn't....

Here is a challenge for the Op.
Ask the problem worker to write 3 short sentences to explain why the shop has problems.

And then post those 3 sentences here.

It is not fair that we only hear one side of the story and then are expected to offer any solutions.

Added: In a two-man shop it is logical to have two opinions on some things.

*Bump back to the top again, Last time.
Seems like the Op won't take the challenge.

So the best worker ever should be fired, and the Op take his chances with that other guy who seems much more friendly.
