First spline cut, not too shabby. I did goof it up though, had the rotary going to wrong way on the first attempt.

when they first built the HS1 they had slotted solenoids. the age of ur machine they have were you can use a Allen or something pointy to push in to actuate them. all of the verticals use the same style. no you shouldn't be able to turn the carousel with it in or out. it's on a gear motor and I believe it also has a brake.can you gain access to the motor? if so for grins and giggles, extend out the tool changer . and if there is a fan in the back of the motor, see if you can spin it with a screwdriver. I believe once you get the driver resolved that it will most likely take off and run for you .

Is it possible some of my parameters are incorrect?

that is a very real possibility. you will have to go in and check values. the tool changer can be disabled for 1. tool positions could have a 0 value, ect.

The later revisions of the service manual refer to a debug mode? any idea how to activate that?

trappers but it wont help you with any parameter issues. or tool changer. it's used for accuracy adjustments, and information like total machine hrs. to get to debug mode . turn parameter lock off which is setting 7. then go to the position screen. type I DEBUG . then hit write. the bottom corner of the screen you will see a hex decimal group of characters. normally starting with the letter N.page down the position screen 4 to 5 pagesto see 3 normally not seen pages.to get out of debug mode either type it again and enter. ot just simply turn off the machine.

Thanks!

In the 1999 manual it says it gives specific codes for error 354.

Alarm 354 - Aux Axis Disconnected
When this alarm is generated, do not press RESET. Turn Setting 7 OFF. Enter DEBUG mode, then view the
Alarms/Messages page. On the Messages page, a code will appear similar to WO1. The list of codes and their
descriptions appears below:

WO1 Power was just turned on or failed. Check the ribbon cables from the Aux Axis PCB to the proces-
sor for correct routing. Check for communication problems between the processor and the Aux
Axis PCB.

WO2 Servo following error too large. Check the encoder for contamination or dirt. Check for an intermit-
tent connection at both ends of the motor cable.

WO3 Emergency Stop. The E-STOP button was pressed, or an E-STOP condition occurred.

WO4 High load. Check for binding in the tool changer gearbox and motor. Rotate the carousel by hand
and feel for any binding. Make sure the tool holders are the correct weight.

WO5 Remote RS-232 commanded off. Check the ribbon cable and the voltage to the Aux Axis PCB.
Check for 115VAC (minimum) to the Aux Axis PCB from the main transformer. Check the fuse
holder and the fuse that is protecting this circuit.

WO6 Air or limit switch or motor overheat. Check that the motor is not hot. Check for any binding in the
motor. Check for overweight tooling.

WO7 Z channel fault. Either the encoder or the cable is bad. Change the encoder first, as it is easier to
change than the cable. If the problem persists, change the cable.

WO8 Over-current limit, stalled or PCB fault. Check for binding in the tool changer gearbox. Make sure
the belt is not too tight. Ohm out the motor cable, checking pins G to F (should be open), G to H
(should be open), and F to H (should read between 2.5 and 5 ohms). Check all the connections on
the Aux Axis PCB and motor cable.

WO9 Encode ES. Z channel is missing. Bad encoder or cable. See WO7.

WOA High voltage. Check the incoming voltage to the Aux Axis PCB. Incoming voltage must be 115
VAC. See WO5.

WOB Cable fault. Check the cable from the motor to the Aux Axis PCB. Check for loose connections at
each end.

It says 10k right underneath the resistor, also the resistor shows no load on my multimeter.

The colors are Brown white(or yellow?) Red. Its very hard to see if there are extra bands missing. either way it doesnt correlate to a 10k value.

I replaced the resistor.... then it burnt it. so something was already fucked i think. Time for a new board I think.

something is drawing a ton of current across that resistor. I'd buy a new board. then compare them side by side. also check motor for resistance to ground.

I have the part number, Can I just buy it through haas directly?

yes you can. Haas is notorious for changing part numbers. but with your machines SN they should be able to cross it with no issues.

Right on, I feel at this point Ive pretty much narrowed it down to this board being the issue, mostly because of that burnt out resistor. luckily nothing was damaged from what I can see. Ill also check that motors impedance, could be the root cause of the board failure.

I just ohmed out the motor, its 3 ohms. So within spec. there is no path to ground either. I wasnt able to get into the debug mode, maybe theres a different way on this machine.

wait til I get to my shop. I'll walk you thru debug. I'm thinking it's in the alarm screen you type debug , then go to position screen. but I can go step by step when I get there.
