when they first built the HS1 they had slotted solenoids. the age of ur machine they have were you can use a Allen or something pointy to push in to actuate them. all of the verticals use the same style. no you shouldn't be able to turn the carousel with it in or out. it's on a gear motor and I believe it also has a brake.can you gain access to the motor? if so for grins and giggles, extend out the tool changer . and if there is a fan in the back of the motor, see if you can spin it with a screwdriver. I believe once you get the driver resolved that it will most likely take off and run for you .
that is a very real possibility. you will have to go in and check values. the tool changer can be disabled for 1. tool positions could have a 0 value, ect.
