2007 haas vf2 i just got. this is my first machine. I just got it into place and wired up. the first start everything started normal and i got to where i could jog the table around. there was a low battery warning as it was booting up. I planed on doing a backup and changing the battery today. when i tryed to start it, the electrical kicked on, it seems to boot up normal then it will go to the main screen for about 1 second then to this screen. I would attach a video of it but i’m not sure how to do that.

Has anyone else delt with this before? do i just need to pull the battery’s and then reload everything? sucks being the new guy to technology.

Do you have the ethernet hard drive option? If so, those may be messages from the PC104 board in there. It either may have a problem or it's looking for the network that isn't there anymore.

Those look like memory errors but, they may also be registers in the PC104 board.

I hope it’s something different, but I had a very similar screen and the processor board ended up being bad. Found a used good one for 3000 dollars. Haas wanted about 6.5k plus labor.

Worldwide industrial in Ga helped me out.

i think it does have the ethernet hard drive. im hoping its not the board, being a memory problem would make sense to me.

hopefully that’s not the issue but thanks for the info. that will be a good place to start if i end up needing a board

here are what the screens show when i go to start the machine. The white screen appears and then it flashes to the other screen but dosnt seem to load it all the way before it goes to the black screen with the blue words (pic in the first post).

Ahh, it's lost its marbles (from the dead battery). Notice the model name is blank on the startup screen? You're probably going to need to call your HFO to perhaps talk you through trying to load it. I went through this on my 2004 VF-2. I'm not sure if everything is on the board for you to do a restore or not.

Similar era machine and issue:

Thanks for the info, Im assuming that it was just the battery problem and hopefully thats the case. I sent all my info in yesterday to get setup with the HFO so hopefully next week i can maybe get it figured out. Im going to see if they can just talk me through it on the phone instead if having to come out since there a long way away from me. I do have the original 3.5" floppy that came with the machine and i think the previous owner printed out all the perimeters and the code for the options that were unlocked.

Hang on. You said 2007 machine and I assumed you had the 15" monitor and USB. Do you have the analog spindle load meter and the 3.5" floppy? If you do, then the stuff I linked does apply to you and you should be able to reload.

The tricky part is going to be clearing the BBU RAM without wiping the backup software. Do you know how many megs of ram your board has? 1, 4, 8 or 16?

yes, it has the 15" monitor and USB as well as the 3.5" floppy and Ethernet. I dont have the analog spindle load meter, and it has the 16 meg expanded memory.

Hmm. I didn't know they still included the floppy once the machines went to the 15" screens. My lathe is late 2007 and it doesn't even have a place to install a floppy.

Did you read that previous thread I linked above? Did you go out and search for Haas BBU test on duckduckgo? The first hit is the Haas PDF to do this. There are a couple of steps in there that could wipe the machine clean and cause you to have to call them out to reload from a laptop. This can be a minefield but, if you do things carefully and methodically, you can get through it.
  • You need to clear the BBU RAM as described on page 4 and HALF of page 5.
  • You specifically DO NOT WANT TO CLEAR THE FLASH MEMORY (bottom of page 5). That's where your software backup is stored. DO NOT DO THE BOTTOM OF PAGE 5
  • You also do not want or need to "load software" per page six.
  • You want to start in the middle of page 7 where it says: Verify that EMERGENCY STOP is still pressed in. This is essential to prevent damage to the control and unexpected axis movement during the next step.
  • You will need the unlock codes for all of the factory options. The HFO can supply them to you. It is probably more than just what the previous owner may have even known. Things like rigid tap were options on some machines. On your VF, it was included but, still requires an unlock code to enable it. Scaling and Macros, spindle orientation and some others that may have been part of the Renishaw probing package will have codes. 4th axis will have a code. The machine will have a final unlock code for the control. You'll need that too.
  • You will also need to use the floppy that came with the machine to restore the factory parameters and settings. Or you can rekey them but, I'd try the disk if you can and have it.
If you aren't 100% confident in your abilities, call the HFO. Or come back here and ask. I am not an expert but, I have done this on my 2004.

The wildcard here is I don't know what your PC104 board (Ethernet, hard drive and probably USB) does during all of this. So that you understand: the PC104 card is a full, standalone computer living inside the Haas. It doesn't do anything except handle network and USB duties. It talks to the Haas when something is needed off of the network. I suspect that nothing at all will happen to that board and when everything reloads and the options get turned back on, it will wonder where everyone else went and why it wasn't invited to the party.
