Haas tech youtube?

You have posted some nice parts for a beginner. BUT, they are only 1st operation parts. In the real world, the parts need to be finished. How would you do the car in a 2nd operation? The chess piece?
Holding on to raw stock and doing the first op is usually the easy part. The fun part is flipping it over and finishing the job.
Everything but the delorean was finished
Chess pieces i parted on the lathe
The arm segment was simply locating the wcs on the bottom of the vice jaw and letting the face mill rip around.
Heres my first opt

And here is the finished parts
Ran 50 of them

Wonder what the customer response would be when they see the Haas tech watching a youtube video on how to fix their machine. All while likely being charged $100+/hr. I know what I’d do……
It could be for internal use only, something like training before they are qualified to service out in the field. Who knows.
And that's IF it even exists.

Would you feel confident about a tech’s abilities knowing that their training then was from watching videos? “Techs” hanging on the phone while listening to someone telling them what to do is another pet peeve of mine.

I do not have a problem with tech calling into robot command. They have a variety of machines to know about, and if they can nail it down to a system they are just familiar enough with to be the surgeon that needs talk thru it is legit.
If they come in and have to call about the green wires that do not go to anything.. be peeved.

I don't give a shit as long as they get the job done correctly and quickly. If we're paying them $500+ per hour they can use any resource in the world to get it done.

So you’re OK with a tech learning their job on your dime? Not me. The person better come in with a solid plan of troubleshooting and then repair. Hands on experience is 100 times better than watching a video.

Do you think every maintenance job goes 100% as planned? If you do then you need to get your head out of the sand.
If a tech shows up and runs into a snag, and can easily fix it by quickly looking at a video... fuck yes he needs to watch that video!

But in your shop, you'll just huff and puff because you're the big boss man and tell him to leave. Meanwhile you'll wait another 3-4 days if you're lucky for another tech to show up while I'm making chips.

Also, you're assuming they're just coming in green as a bullfrog's ass and sitting back watching YouTube to learn how to fix things.
Calm down, have some dip.

Oh, I got it... he can sit there and sift thru all of the machine books endlessly looking for something, OR he can pop on their company's YT channel and see it immediately.

Watch out for that newfangled technology, it'll git ya.

Having spent 9 years working as a field service CNC tech I have seen lots. Yes, jobs go south occasionally. The better trained tech will have far fewer of those than the green guy who has to call the mothership for advice and be handheld through the job. Just my opinion for sure, but a video is not going to be as good as hands on training at the factory. Cheaper though and that’s why it goes that way.

In my shop I’d never call in a tech in the first place unless it was a warranty issue. And then if the tech had to watch a video or hang on the phone to get walked through the job I would ask them to leave. Then I’ll fix the thing myself and get back to work. That actually close to how I got recruited into my first field service job offer.

It is interesting to read in the manuals from the MTB how to do the work then watch the tech do his personal slam bam method. It makes me rethink having a tech do the work.

To all,
I am sorry for the upset.

I guess I struggle with some negative criticism mostly because of my current school life. I’ve dedicated most of my life to the shop and manufacturing and 3d Printing. I get bullied quite a lot in the school doesn’t seem to do anything about it. Today some one closed the fire door in our shop and blamed it on me. As well, they sat there on the other side of the window taunting me, because I had my face up to the glass so I can feel the vibrations of the cut. People like to throw things, take my tools, drill holes in my finished parts and wipe out my tool and wcs offsets.Called many names such as teachers pet or the mini forman.

Im not here to complain I simply want to live my life and be happy.
As I've heard it said, living well is the best revenge. They'll be flipping burgers (unless the burger bots take their jobs) while you're supporting a family and buying a new truck / boat / motorcycle with your spare income.
