Haas tl2 spindle repair

Hi guys

I've been to view a tl2 for sale, all looks good except for the spindle noise, it still works, but I'm sure the bearings are shot, sounds horrendous, just about manageable around 1000rpm but gets much worse as you go higher, a loud grumbling sound. I was wondering if the bearings are replaceable? or is it a sealed cartridge?

If I remember correctly, it is a cartridge style assembly. I had the bearings replaced on a 2010 TL-2 after running the ever living shit out of it (K's and K's of hours). Price tag w/install was around $6k IIRC. Vaguely remember the tech removing the retaining ring(s), removing the old cartridge, and sliding in the new one. Not sure if the design has changed.

It's disconcerting that the seller never had it fixed. I can only wonder what else is wrong with the machine that you might not be able to hear.

Hard to imagine what all could be bad to rack up that kind of cost for what seems a pretty vanilla spindle rebuild. Do they gig you with proprietary bearings or what?
