Is there anyone here who owns and operates a Heap threading machine with the Tangential Die Head?

I need to partially disassemble it to replace the locking nuts (Part No. 56) which have become rounded over and they are different sizes across the flats(!), meaning that they have been replaced before. I am wanting to know how to do this.

I am also having difficulty understanding and operating the Fine Adjustment plate (part No.55). Backing off the "Smaller" screw and advancing the "Larger" screw does not rotate the collar against the incline to change the cutting diameter. The "Larger" screw will not advance! How is it supposed to work?
I am considering replacing the slotted grub screws with hex socket grub screws. The slots are going to get damaged and cam out the screw driver. They are already burred.

General photos of the machine are attached.

You appear to have a standard Landis rotary head ...I have several big ones I saved when I scrapped the Landis machine .....since the chaser holders swing inward,Id imagine the size could be fine adjusted by limiting the inward travel......you may get some clues by reading the Landis patent on the die head ,which is around 1895 ......IIRC ,it contained some detail on the operation of the head........back in the day I could still read the 1895 patents on the die heads ,they are probably too rusty now.

Thanks @john.k
I'm pretty sure this is a Heap (Joshua Heap & Co) die head.
I will probably have to find the patent and read that.
I have decided not to try and change the adjustment screws. They are a special fine thread - I would need to make any replacement screws.
I am still focused on replacing those two lock nuts that lock the incline ring.

The last time I looked ( 20 years ago admittedly ) they were still in business. I had to go over to their factory to pick up some dies for a very similar “ Kendall & Gent “ threading machine.

Have you looked on the “ Tony’s lathes “ internet site ? He sells all sorts of old machine tool manuals.
