Helical turning inserts?

Have turning inserts with a helical profile been tried? Sure, they'd be radius specific but that's not really a big deal. Think endmill geometry, or something close, but on an insert.

Just wondering.

If the cutting edge of a lathe tool is canted up (positive) or down (negative), that's about the extent of helical for a lathe insert. The face of the insert doesn't do much else, except provide a place to put a chip breaker groove to roll the chip up more than a typical endmill would require, because a mill chip ends quite abruptly in a controlled manner.

Some one made a "Twisted Square" insert for turning, many years ago.
Sounds like it maybe what your thinking of.
