helicoil form taps....anyone make them?

Check with Helicoil- I thought I saw a reference to them in their catalog, but not sure.

KROMHARD, 1 866 863 3344, No connection to them except they made me an acme tap I could not find,and I thought it was reasonable.

AFAIK Balax is the only known source.

Helicoil OTOH is almost guaranteed not to have them as I somehow recall seeing something in one of their documents that thread forming for Helicoil threads are not supported ... for whatever thickheaded reason they might have given.


Anyhow, I have successfully used the Balax threadfloer STI taps before in AL.
MSC will have them if you call and talk directly to sales.

Only issue I have ever had is that you cannot buy STI form taps. You have to use a cut tap. Otherwise no drama.

sti form taps

If you use sti form taps do a test of the insert install. On some of the fine pitch inserts they like to crossthread by catching the formed valley in the crest of the thread. Bad luck with the 2-56 in formed threads. A 75% or better thread will help.
