Jim thanks for the offer, I will certainly be in touch. She does have the built in lever collet that I want to use for this job. I ran a little bar fed mazak cnc lathe for years and I do like the hardinge emergency pads for handling stainless so I am glad to know I can get them for this machine too.
The plan for this machine is to just make "blanks" that we will stock for later finishing. We make repair parts so we do a lot of one offs' and customs on manual lathes, so the diameter and tip profile is subject to change but the tapped hole feature is standard.
I am currently working with somma on the self releasing tap holder. Once I get my tools in place I will reach out for advice on setting the "depth rods?" and general use and tips. There aren't very many turret lathe youtube videos for me to learn from so I may have to give you a call, lol.
Every video of a turret setup I’ve seen on you tube sucks. One day I plan to make a simple video on my Logan turret to show how a turret should be set up.

It would help if you showed a pic of the tooling that came with the lathe . Master collet. Crank for setting depth on turret . Collet pads. Ect.
you adjust turret tool depth by counting number of turns on depth screws. That is determined by pitch of screw.

I have a big box turning tool 1” shank and some sleeves that should fit. pm me if interested. We can work an equitable deal. Got the stuff at auction, picture didn’t have a size scale, way too big for my DSM59 :)

Kingbob,

Does your Hitachi have a A2-6 or A1-6 Spindle mount?

Here are the spindle nose, master collet, and 3 piece collets that fit a #4 Warner Swasey.

Here is everything assembled:

Operating that long lever releases pressure on the master collet which springs out so that the stock can slide forward. Engaging the lever and a draw tube pushes against the master collet to grip the stock. Did a similar setup come with your Hitachi?

I’m back from my road trip. So I went out to my shop and tool a few pics of W&S collet pads. I don’t think they will fit your turret but you will get the idea of what’s out there. i don’t know how you are going to hold stock. Bar or cut pieces? A turret has 6 positions but it is common to 8 or 10 operations using those 6 positions. First get a 60 degree spotting drill that will let you center your part and chamfer it with 1 position. Or if you family of parts use a common size bore you can have a tool grinder grinder grind 1 tool that does multiple bores at once . Or a slide head can face and bore a part with ease. Email me and I will tell you more how to double up tools on one station. I am sending a pic of different collet pads. They are wrong size for your turret but you will get idea of how to make emergency pads.
