Hello,

I'm new to this forum and machining in general please excuse my inherent ignorance for the time being. I am not sure if this is the correct place for this question. However, I was going to run a job using the shop’s automatic band saw (a 1985 cosen model auto10h) and the blade refuses to even stay on the drive wheel. Thought I would ask more intelligent and knowledgeable for advise on solving this problem.

Thanks jeff

As above, the guides must be in good condition. I think I had one of those auto saws once (was a Clausing, by Cosen), great machine, wish i never sold it :(

Check each guide bearing which "twist" the blade into its cutting position.

Then you must check the "dish" on the adjustable (non-driven) wheel so the blade stays on when you tighten and run it. More or less you adjusting parallel rotational axes with the fixed/driven wheel.

Are the tires and drive belts new? It must not be worn out. Tension and track the blade properly .

We have a Cosen automatic, it doesn't have tires and the drive belt (variable speed) doesn't have any affect on the blade tracking.

The only problem we have had was the drive wheel came loose on its shaft and required repair (made a new shaft and fitted taper lock bush to wheel). It might be worth checking yours.

I am pretty sure there is tracking adjustment on at least the drive wheel (via the gearbox mounting) but I would be looking elsewhere first, it sounds like something is not right, e.g. maybe check both wheels for any bearing problems.

I didn't realize that. I don't know much about automatic cosen band saws. Maybe you can call
the technical rep of the manufacturer. They can help you out .

Yes its an important question here.If they are then there will be some other problem need to be fixed.
I am not sure about the exact situation.

I had a look at the Cosen at work yesterday, both wheels have tracking adjustment. However I would not touch these adjusters until I had figured out what has gone wrong. I am sure there is some other reason the blade comes off.
