How bad is an eccentric load/heavily interrupted cut for lathe spindle bearings

What's keeping you guys from turning the piece out of round barstock and then milling the profile? I'm sure you have reasons, probably chuck size, but this would seem to eliminate the need of turning a rectangular piece with interupted cuts. The milling operation would handle the interuptions much better.

We would have to start with 13" round, the bandsaw won't cut that big and I think it would make more waste material. Using plate works out pretty well and makes sure that we can hold it. We have some near net blanks and they suck to hold. The first op is in the mill.
