I gotta say...'leveraging debt' and other such terms tend to make my eyes cross. What I've found is there are a very few people who really know how to do that successfully and in the right circumstances. They hit it big, and so every other jamoke out there assumes he can do the same. That's why we see auctions of huge plant closings with lots of expensive CNC tools....the owner over-borrowed and couldn't tote the note.

I have a rich in-law who made millions in the oil business...he told me the very first thing he and his partners did was aggressively pay off their debt. Once they had done that, they could start making money for themselves. Until then, he said the Golden Rule applied - He who has the Gold makes the Rules.

But, if the OP is a bad-ass and plans to rent space etc. I don't see why two years is the time frame needed to start up. That seems like long time to dip your toe into the water.

In today’s world, with this CRAZY thing called the internet it’s very easy to move a business across the country. Not all business are B&Ms (Thats Brick and mortar) (#nokidleftbehind)

And what else is funny? A real quick google search on “Siemens CNC control” and you can find EXACTLY what he is talking about. Siemens is very well known for their CNC and PLC controls... (I bet you know all about PLC controls too, don’t you there good buddy) I mean, not that hard to do... So please for the love of god, quit trying to act like a billy bad ass and let the grown ups talk. Go sit in the corner with your crayons and STFU. Oh also, please stay in the damn lines and quit eating the crayons. Because you are making yourself look like a complete (hmmm what’s the good PC word I’m looking for??) let’s just go with dumbass.... be relevant or STFU (do I need to spell that one out for you too?)

sure you can move an internet business across the world.
but what about a business that depends on you being where the action is, as in standing behind the camera at an event?
an event that you scored because of the other events that you covered before, does word of mouth sound familiar?

so i call bulshit on the story.

did you ever see a Siemens metal working machine?
not just the cnc part but the machine made by siemens?
no, you didn't, because there aren't any.
and if you had some intelligence you would have noticed that that is exactly what he said he would never buy.

if you had any intelligence you would have noticed that the whole story does not stick and that you are being duped.
so who are you to tell me to stfu?
you gullible dimwit.

I’m actually saying two years to get it to where it replaces my day job income. I am the one who has been saying that I won’t leverage debt and will only work at the speed of cash. That is why I predict it taking a little longer, and I’m fine with that.

Alright, this thread really has devolved into base level intelligence, and folks who can’t read a thread before responding to it. Thank you to everyone who had helpful responses, I now know more than I did and I will use the info accordingly. I also want to thank those of you who were unhelpful, who came in here just to fight and find a flaw in everything. Now I have a good starter list on whose posts to ignore from now on.

Ok Billy,
1. Who gives a shit about the story? It’s none of my damn business what his story is and it’s none of yours... It doesn’t have to be 100% maybe he doesn’t want to disclose every little detail. None of that was part of the questions. So why the F are you getting all caught up on it??? He has another business and it is profitable, gotcha... don’t even need that much information, but cool.

2. You are a moron... end of story... many people on this thread alone have told you that you are wrong and you still refuse to listen. You are obviously not a machinist you might call yourself one but you have not worked in a machineshop. Actually I will give you some credit, maybe you have, maybe you have worked in a shop with one or two... HAAS? Yeah probably a HAAS and some manual machines... It is NOT uncommon for someone to identify a machine by their control type “A Funuc machine” “A Mitsubishi machine” “A Siemens machine” bc the control is what matters when you are working with a machine. Especially when you work in a shop that has several different makes and control types. So again, STFU
Yes, Siemens does not make a stand alone machine from the ground up, that’s not what they specialize in. They specialize in controls... they make really good PLCs and CNC controls. But if you look back at the OP you will read the he isn’t looking for a Siemens based machine he wants to do a retro fit with a Siemens control. THAT was his point. If you had something greater than a subpar comprehension level you would have understood that... but you don’t... which is why you are a moron and need to sit back in your corner with your crayons... Be relevant or STFU. Help and encourage or STFU.

I have spoken...

The problem with all these types of threads, new guy (new to PM so 'we' don't know you from Adam) comes in asking for advice, inevitably (because it is the internet) they don't hear what they want, or the thread gets derailed very fast, and 2nd page in they are a "kick ass machinist putting cocky old farts out of work" .... :rolleyes5:

Well there is your answer, put us old timers out of work then. Should be able to retrofit a nice Tormach and start taking work from everyone! :nutter:

There it is folks! Wrap this thread up, Mr 5 posts has given and presented all the logic we will ever need - - "Be relevant or STFU. Help and encourage or STFU. "

Amen brotha! Preach! We are just dumb old machinists here with hundreds (heck maybe 1000's) of years combined experience, obviously we know nothing. Move along.

you do have a problem with reading comprehension.
i explicitely stated that i do not consider myself a(real) machinist.
in this company i would be very reluctant to say otherwise, as i can not compare to most of the members.
but i do work my machines, have paying customers and am registered as a machine shop in the local industrial zone.

and about me being wrong, i guyss time will tell.

Yes, I have not posted at all. Just joined this forum bc I saw someone who needed some encouragement. And thought I could give some advice and help.
So just because I just joined and have only posted in this thread automatically makes me not know shit? You don’t know shit about me nor do I have to tell you shit about me or what I know. Keep your 6” scale in your pocket buddy... I never said anything about anyone else... Just one person who was picking a fight just to fight... and still is... Chill...

Are you here to argue or provide relevant information?
If you’re here for the latter, then please, I genuinely want to hear what you have to say... If not... Well......

What is the biggest cut you have made on a lathe? Mill? what machines can you run?

See, the thing is unless you tell us about yourself we dont know anything about you. And since the world, especially the on line world seems full of posers and wanabees the best we can do is think you are one of the many posers and wanabees.... Until YOU prove otherwise.

It’s not worth following this thread anymore, I wish we could have ended it on a Star Wars quote, like reasonable men.

People who want to help are in the minority in this forum. Most don’t want anyone else to succeed, because they never could.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

So you have your own shop? Good.. Now why can you not share some of your experiences and not belittle? You obviously don’t like it when I belittle you, so why do you have to do it to the OP? He is here for help and advice from people who have been there and traveled down that path.

And now we have the 6.5” scale!!!!
Hahahah and what do I have to prove to you?? Who gives a fuck about biggest cut? It goes right into the fact you think it’s a dick measuring contest... it’s not bud... “oh yeah I’m a bad ass I just took a .500”DOC on my 20mm Star!!! I’m a bad ass!!!” Yeah bud you just fucked your shit up...

I've followed this thread a bit and can say it doesn't surprise me where it ended up.

Idiots like this come to a place of experience for sound advice, when it's given and it isn't to their liking they get argumentative and belligerent.

PLONK!

Quotes or it didn’t happen. I took and thanked for solid advice. There wasn’t much advice at all, just people picking fights. Like you.

Lol I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist a little belittling. Nothing like stirring the pot a little.

Like I said before, start small, be creative and see where it takes you. Let your creativity buy more tools so you can be even more creative. This is the way...
