Insert tooling size

I finally mount my qctp to my sb 9a last night. Now I'm looking at insert tooling and it seems my options are 3/8 or 1/2 in tools. The axa holders I have will hold a 1/2 in tool, but I'm seeing that I may not be able to line up centerline with that size. Which size am I better off with? Thanks for the help.

I just checked my 9a using a 1/2" toolholder with a TPMG insert and I can get it below center.
If you don't have any toolholders yet, get a piece of 1/2" bar stock and see where it sits.
I have an assortment of 3/8" and 1/2" toolholders.

There's not much need for 1/2" shank tools unless it gets you an insert or angle that you can't get with a 3/8" shank tool. If you want to get started if suggest a 3/8"/ 10mm SCLCR turning tool and boring bar, and a pack of CCGT0604 inserts. A little fragile but very free cutting. They'll do pretty much anything you need, but for nasty stuff you can pick up a pack of CCMT inserts for little money

Another reason for CCxx inserts is that there are TONS of them available on ebay.
CCxx are most of my inserts, but I also have some V inserts for tight places. I have some T inserts, but I generally stick with the Cs.
