Just how bad can Chinese tools be.

I needed an R8 - JT3 adapter and found one for $18 delivered from a supplier that has genuine Aloris and other good bands. I figured a pretty straightforward job to make them, so a reasonable risk.
DrW bar wouldn’t even start in the thread, just jammed. Maybe some metric none sense or something.
Pulled the draw bar and it screwed in really nicely. Then I realized the hole is drilled and tapped at an angle. Must have been done in a drill press or something with a terrible “fixture”.
Quite remarkable, or maybe I’m really naive.

I had a friend bought a 1974 Pontiac wagon. It had a 455 cubic inch engine, made 17 horsepower, got 2 miles to the gallon, the body rusted out in six weeks and it wouldn't go up hills.

HOW BAD CAN AMERICAN CARS BE ?!?!

You bought something for $18 from a supplier. Send it back. Problem solved.

Somewhere I would suggest this is not the only one.
Remarkable how bad their process must be. Shame to waste (maybe) good material.

If I chance buying an item that is priced far less than a name brand manufacturer, I understand the inherent risk. What I cannot accept is purchasing the same item at a much higher from a recognized tool company only to receive the same crap. I may be wrong, but it seems many companies simply mark up the price for the exact same item and pocket the profit and all we get is the shaft.

That's my $.02.

Cheers!

I wonder whether what you are saying is probably true.
What amazes me is that a simple job can be done so badly. This adapter is for an old chuck, so I figured it would probably be OK.
Maybe it was made in one of those shops we see on videos from Pakistan.... who knows.

I don't know, I paid a premium for some items from MSC over the years which would also fall into the crap category.

However, your link is for a Bison brand so in this instance, I am inclined to agree with you.

I think you'd really have to be trying to get it that far off!

Many years ago, when I was first starting out, I bought some cheap vises that I thought were a real bargain. The looked like Kurt but were 1/4 the price.
Yeah...about that.
Straight out of the box, they couldn't hold a part straight. The screws were so badly out of round the handle would move up and down, the needle bearings failed the 3rd day. Ugh..I wound up throwing them in the dumpster.

I don't like to do this because you are actually a pretty nice guy. But this negatori attitude to a whole class of people ... well, ahem. Weren't you having a hard time figuring out how to make some crappy threads in a piece of pipe recently ? This is chinese material in a chinese machine with chinese cutting tools, I get these ads stuffed into my inbox all the time ever since I was stupid enough to use my real telephone number at a show. The punishment for dumb is ads :(

Anyway, when you think you can do this, let me know. I'll grab you the mill ...

(the funny part is, it looks like that's for a panhead ... but panheads have THE WORST ports ever seen on a motorcycle, maybe. Who knows, but I'd think if you were going to repop them you'd fix the ports ?)

It’s a crap shoot.

You can save big bucks sometimes and waste time/money other times.

For a positive example, look at those super cheap tiny self entering vices you can get on Amazon. Great little units at 1/15 the price of a Lang.
They are defiantly not a Lang, but for what I use it for there is no difference.

For giggles the other day I bought a competitors assembly. Pricing was great. I’ll simply say I’m not concerned

Oh they sell some really cheapo stuff too. But as long as you sift that crap out you're usually in good shape.

It's worth noting the $18 part was DELIVERED.

That's noteworthy as the $40 MSC part would be another $20 delivered...which means it's a $60 part and one that UPS made more money than you paid for the part in the first place, and they made more money than the guy who made the part in some factory.

Of course....that's understandable when you are paying delivery drivers $49/hr.

He got one of the good ones. Mine didn't develop the full 17 hp and rusted out in less than a month. I replaced it with a Ford that had 23 hp got 11 mpg and would go up hills. The trick was you had to do the hills in reverse. It was the latest and greatest Model T.

You could throw statistics at Chinese quality, but simply stated, every now and then they make a good one by accident. Parts are made to the standard that says if it looks good, ship it. No requisite for meeting print or functioning in any manor.

You people absolutely amaze me with your ill informed stupid racist statements. I worked for Tenneco running a spring line, the engineer showed me some pictures of the safety device on a press. Thick PVC sheet tied together with wire and wrapped around the press. I asked where the plant was, Angola. I thought makes sense I am familiar with Angola having helped f**k that country up in a racially inspired war, he said no it's in Angola Indiana. You can get crap product out of any country in the world. What do you expect when you want to pay nothing.
