Led for Heidenhain LS501

I have several HH LS501 scales withs need a replacement led
to have it repaired is €225,-
I would like to try it myself once
Anybody done that before and knows what type and where to get those leds

the repaired ones have a led in a brass housing it seems

I have replaced the light in an LS303 head before but I salvaged the bulb from another Heidenhain head. So, I'm no help on light source but just mention it as it can be done by mere mortals. I vaguely recall it was important to keep the bulb in the same physical position as the original as interaction between light, lens and scale etchings are important to maintain for proper accuracy.

You might want to check out this old thread.
The guy used an old IR led from a computer mouse and a resistor.

I have to polish up my french a lot to be able to read that
but I give it a try

I have some pictures of the old situation and the new
I now have to check if they added or changed any resistor
On the left the old situation On the right the new one
You see the new led has a brass housing with a 5mm diam and some kinf of ear on it
Perhaps for orientation ???
The bracket to hold the LED is a piece of fiberglass sheet with a slott for adjusting
with some epoxy on it to seal it all

I would not see why not. The only thing to be mindful of is the spectrum of IR it produces, I don't know if this is a critical factor or not. So If ya do it please update us.
