Leveling the 10EE

I am moving my 10EE into its position in my garage shop and want to get it relatively level prior to putting the saddle and apron back on. (Still waiting for some oil line parts)

I want to get the leveling feet on the machine and then I will move it in with my engine hoist. I went to put the leveling foot on the MG end and noticed the hole (Which I assume is original to the casting from Monarch for a leveling foot) is slightly off center, towards the front.

Is this hole original to the casting and put there on purpose by Monarch as that hole is on the balance line?

The 10EE is so RIGID you cannot effect it with leveling. Its got three point contact to the floor, two on the head stock and the one you pointed out on the tail. If level matters to you anyway, I'd use shims under these three points. These points are nice large areas. use a shim the same size for maximum contact.

So that hole is original from Monarch and off center on purpose? I'm loathe to put the feet on and put it down IF that's not the case.

I'm leveling mine the same way, using leveling feet. I also used the cast in hole at the back, works fine. Like Karl_T mentioned, it's not strictly necessary with the 10EE since it is so rigid, but I do it with all my machines. Plus, leveling feet are easier than messing around with shims when you want to level a machine.

It’s factory, the hole on our machine was actually reamed to .625”. There were a few burrs on our isolation pad stud that needed to be filed off so it would fit. I was really surprised at the high standard the holes were finished to.
