I'm in need of fixing a botched hole in an aluminum part, looking for recommendations for compound that can fill in the hole and allow for re-machining of the hole, suggestions?

Prefer not to weld, just a small hole maybe 0.4" diam by 0.2" depth, just looking for something quick and easy, not too worried about strength.

A metal insert as above of the right size is probably a better move. If you "step" the insert such that the lower ~.15" is a few thou under the hole, and the remainder is a touch oversize you can get the retainer compound to hold it, but after press insertion and finishing have a near-perfect hidden repair.

Depending on the purpose of the hole we tend to machine it oversize about .15" or more per side than press fit a little longer plug in and machine it flat to the surface.
