There is a simple geometric formula (which I have) to figure out M98 magazine width at the rear and at the shoulder based on the cartridge dimensions. I cannot find anything on how to set up the magazine, underside of the feed rails and distance between the feed rails to allow cartridges to reliably transition up out of the magazine and into the chamber. It looks like careful use of the Dremel is the solution most often used. As cartridges move forward, the draft/taper of the rails on each side of the action needs to be different for it to work right.
I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to determine how much metal to remove, and where to remove it. I can’t imagine Mauser or FN relying on Dremels to get rifles machined to feed. The project involves a 280 Rem AI.
Thanks!
