mill in a corner

The guards at Auschwitz were serving their country too. Sometimes conscience needs to come before country.

True, but often times conscience also comes with a bullet between the eyes.

Nonetheless, the Cunt said something moronic recently as well: Jane Fonda calls coronavirus 'God's gift to the left' | TheHill

About the op, mill in the corner is a good idea for saving space, but only until you drop a tool, a part, a wrench, a screw or ..... just about any f'n thing that can be dropped
which in turn will find it's final resting place ONLY behind the machine.

And then there is the other cheerful activity of cleaning-up after the work is done.

( Forgot which one gave me more cuts and bruises ... :scratchchin: )

I like having the lathe and mill in the middle of the room and leave the corner for the work bench. It's far easier to sweep up after everything when the machines aren't in a corner. The work bench and tool boxes are a far better fit for the corner and along the wall.

likely it was an MG 42, not a conscience that kept guards in order. 8mm at about 25 bullets per second is hard to argue with.

Actually, bullets can be worse than grinder sparks, likely blow a hole in the shop corner.

But how is that about where to position a mill or a grinder?

I shot a hole through 1/4 tough steel with an 8mm AP shell.

Must be about Thread Closing Time.

I understand your space limits (I have a severe problem with space), but when ever possible place machinetools away from walls. By doing so, you gain the vertical wall space that can be a very useful walkway or a shelved wall. I have deeply studied this theory and it works, it's quite possible that you will gain useable space.

I have a B'port sitting tight into a corner at home in a small two car garage. Down side there is no cleaning up around it.

The RX was a 7" riser and splash guards off the table ends and back. Guards just clear the ram with the knee raised to the top. Cleanup is a snap.

Downside being a smaller material envelope. For what I do at home that's not an issue.

You could cut a hole in the wall.....:D

Which I've done and works well for a lathe. Small hole with a cover at spindle height.

As for Fonda, she's regretted and apologized several times for her Hanoi Jane photo op, but still thinks we shouldn't have been in the Vietnam War. It seems to me that we should be thinking for ourselves, rather than imagining that the Jane Fondas, Paris Hiltons, and Kim Kardashians of the world have some special insight worthy of our rapt attention.

Works on a horizontal machining center, too. I once punched a hole in the wall into the neighbor's office, working on the other end of a long part. Didn't even notice until he came over to ... errr ... mention it :) Had to do some sheetrock work that weekend.

I think everybody does the Bridgeport-inna-corner trick for a while, then figures out it doesn't really save any space but is a big pita.

I think your forgetting what she did at the POW camp.....
Dick Rutan was not shy about telling everyone what she did.

What makes you think Fonda has any claim on our attention? She doesn't, at all...other than to stimulate a reflexive utterance of the word Cunt at any mention of her name—and the wistful thought that before she dies a natural death somebody might put a round between her eyes.

There are people who feel that way about you, too. So does it help to drag that kind of thing into a discussion of Bridgeport placement ?

Lots of people snivelling about how un-machining this site 'has become' ... weren't you riding that wagon a few times ? so maybe they should stick to machining topics in a Bridgeport thread instead of dragging in political subjects ?

As for the mill in a corner, I suggest that, if you must, do check on clearance for normal table movements.

As for my mill, I have it in the middle of my shop and one end of the table points to a corner. I believe I could get an eight or ten foot length of stock off that end of the mill if I needed to. This placement was very deliberate. My lathe has it's tailstock end pointing more or less at the opposite corner, over a workbench which is behind the mill.

I always thought it would be cool to have BRIDGEPORT on fixed wheels in a corner. With a hydralic cylinder horizontal mounted into the corner to push/pull the bridgeport in/out as needed for work and cleaning.

regarding Fonda, what she did would have been bad if we had been at war. Since our government refused to be at war she was free to go and do what she wanted. Kennedy senior got away with parties with the Nazi's before we got into that war. Why should she be held to a higher standard?

There are persons that don't deserve Forgiveness. Some from WWII others from Viet Nam.
...lewie...

And that leads us to January 2021 in the US Capitol. If some of you guys are so angry at "traitor" Jane that you want to kill her, what do you think of the insurrectionists who literally wanted to overthrow the government?

Fonda's visit was stupid, and she later apologized for it.

The Real Story Behind Jane Fonda'''s '''Hanoi Jane''' Nickname | Time

We have many here who wish Mike Pence HAD been hanged.

Who's the greater traitor?

Okay, since y'all aren't happy unless a thread about Bridgeports turns nasty, I'll help.

No, it wasn't. And no, she shouldn't be sorry.

"Ain't no vietcong ever called me ******************" is a sentence worth remembering. I butchered it a little for effect.

Since you guys like the word "traitor" I have a list ...

Harry Truman, for selling out the claimed ideals of the US to "fight communism"

Dwight Eisenhower, for following that same stupid road

Kennedy is iffy, he was handed a fuckedup situation where the US was in the wrong. He continued on that path but tried a different approah. And then was killed before he could really screw up. 50-50 maybe.

Hey hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today ? similar but with that bullshit Texas ego that wouldn't recognize a mistake ... until too late, anyhow. And had no problem lying to Congress about the Gulf of Tonkin

US Congress, which was too cowardly to actually declare war but drafted kids and sent them off to be killed. The poor kids, that is, not their own. Anyone else notice how the war ended pretty quick when rich kids started coming back in plastic bags ?

Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger, the worst of the bunch, who are literally guilty of treason for backdoor negotiating with the opponents in a war, to improve his chances of election.

And then deceit with the US public by doing pretty much the opposite of what he had promised and pointlessly killing off tens of thousands more, creating the Khmer Rouge which literally murdered hundreds of thousands, lying cheating and stealing (anyone remember Bebe Rebozo ?) ... in short, a true piece of shit in a suit -- and a genuine traitor.

But you guys whine about Jane Fonda. She was right. The Viet Cong was on the side of truth and justice. The US was the imperialist, colonial villain.

You support evil. Hope you are proud of yourselves, because no one with an ounce of ethics or honor is.
