What tool would you use to mill a half circle like the one shown in the picture?

Another production option would be a custom tool. Could be as simple as a flycutter ground to a radius, set to cut on the inside instead of the outside, cutter made from tool steel flat, dumb slotted round with setscrews as the tool holder. Could be deluxe like a Severance external deburr tool, but with a radius rather than a chamfer. Both of these would require minimal clearance from the other features on the part.

Good point. In high production, a custom ground annular cutter would do it on one drill cycle per feature.

Dang it, I saw a guy making hemispheres using an annular cutter while rotating the part on a 5-axis. It was slicker than snot. I was going to go back and figure it out… but I got sidetracked. Now it’s just a hazy memory.

Depending on scale and material, it should be do-able with a corner rounding end mill.

But it made me recall a job I did 25 years ago. I called the tool a trepan, but I guess it was a three flute annular cutter. Spherical part was .110" in diameter.
