Hello, after putting back together my Grizzly G0768 mini lathe crossslide I was doing some test cuts on mild steel with new carbide inserts. I ran into the problem that the tool just won't do a facing operation. It moved the saddle back when taking the cut. Locking down the saddle results in too high tool pressure and too much force to also cut. Attached via link is various photos of the test in diffent materials. I ran a indicator across the slide to see if it wasn't moving parallel and was out by 5 thou over 6 inchs. I don't believe it's tool deflection. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions thanks.

That looks like a roughing tool to me, but I am no insert expert.

With smaller lathes you need to be using sharp tools and low feed rates.

In my limited experience with inserts, the word "sharp" is not the first thing that comes to mind.
