Mitts & Merrill Shaper Questions

I just picked up a 16” Mitts & Merrill/ G&E shaper. Manufacture date is 72 and it has the electric clutch which I’m not so sure if that’s a good thing or not. Seems like a manual clutch would be better but I haven’t powered it up yet to try it(waiting on new oil).

It didn’t come with a lantern so it looks like I’m going to be making one. I’d like to keep it as close to the original as possible.

Could anyone help me with dimensions on the Lantern? Mainly the tool slot length/width, the overall length, and thread size/pitch for the clamping bolt.

Im also missing the ramp for the power downfeed which I plan on making in the future. But I’m mainly worried about getting the lantern machined.

Any help with that and any additional info on the machine would be greatly appreciated, I’m new to shapers.

Thanks

I tried attaching pictures but no matter how small I made them it just says file size too large.

PM me your email address and I’ll send you pics and dimensions. I also have a MnM 16” shaper, from 1973.

I had a 24"M&M G&E with the electric clutch that I was not fond of. It was on or off, so no creeping up slowly to check clearance for a setup.

Yea this is what I was thinking, I really wish I had the manual clutch.

Unfortunately shapers seem to be pretty rare on the west coast so I didn’t have much to choose from.
