Monarch 10ee early round dial. Apron thrust bearing replacement...

I'm looking for a replacement for the Smaller of the thrust bearings used in the apron.
If you have a manual it's page #E-6 part # 82 (part number on my lathe for this is: 14633
the size: Inner Thrust bearing, 0.2540” thick, 0.8700” OD, 0.500”ID
Yest I've looked at the "complete list on Monarch 10ee Bearings and Known replacements" thread. Only the sizes are listed on that.
The company that had my lathe before me must of taken the apron partial apart. Because they managed to bend this bearing and lose
several balls from it. Those balls made their way into the gearing and destroyed a large gear. No problem there I can make the gear.
But I can't remake this bearing. Monarch has them in stock but at a price of $117.75 each. I think that's barely over 3 times the price it should be.
So if anyone can point me to a bearing company that has imperial sizing that might match I'd be really happy. If all else fails I'll bite the bullet and pay
the price. But it would be nice if I can get a decent price. (says everyone)

Terry (grounding) just went completely through his apron and probably has the part number for you. He should be along in due time.

If the washers (races) are still usable and it's just the bearing cage and balls that's the problem, you can make a new cage.

If you haven't already looked at it, this thread has an awesome apron rebuild write up:
In post #17 he discusses the shaft that you're having trouble with.

I'm in the UK and rebuilt my CVA apron last year. I'm pretty sure these thrust races are the same in the 10EE. I managed to find new, old stock RHP (Ransom Hoffmann Pollard) but my usual bearing supplier has them too. They have an ebay 'shop' and it says they will ship to the USA. Try them if you can't find any at sensible prices in the US.

Ebay item number 133051445444
Or search: FT1/2 Imperial Thrust Bearing

I took at look at those they unfortunately are about 0.100 larger outer diameter than the one I'm trying to replace. Thanks for pointing me to those either way.

We're talking about this bearing, correct?

McMaster-Carr has a bearing with the correct ID, but a larger OD (item 6655K17) for $3.08. It has OD 15/16 (0.937), 0.249 thick. One option is to bore out the counterbore in the Cross Feed Friction Gear (E6-83) to accept the larger diameter bearing. I would go that route before paying over $100 for the original bearing.

I have a pair of complete X and Z axis feed clutches, which include those bearings (entire assembly including levers and the pinion gear, etc.). They are from a square dial, but I think they are interchangeable. Contact me if that would be of interest.

(Yep that's the one) Not sure why I didn't think of that! I have to remake the cross feed friction gear anyway. Thanks! It's always the simplest answer...if it's too simple I frequently miss it.

Hey guys just seeing this. I actually purchased replacements (#INA-AKL.EW-1/2-HLG) that were recommended by a local bearing company here I've been using, and the OD ended up being to big, so I just used the old bearings which were still in good shape. These 2 bearings are 2 of 4 that I did not replace on the entire machine. The front 2 spindle bearing being the others.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I do like Cal's solution. Let me know how it goes.

Sorry. You did say 0.870" in your original post and those that I mentioned are 31/32" so obviously too big.
As Cal says, bore them to suit.
I wonder if the O/D of the boss is the same on both machines. CVA is 1-5/16" dia.
.......
I've just looked at the ones from my spare CVA apron:

LongFeedClutch1a.jpg

Most of the bore is 15/16" dia (& ground) which would suit the bearings used in 10EE's, but for about a 1/4" it's been bored out to 1" dia just to accommodate the thrust race!

***So the bore on mine is .940 the entire depth. There isn't a 2nd dimension bored out for the thrust race on my unit. So maybe they started doing this later on.
