I have a Buck 6 inch adjust thru 6 jaw chuck on my Heavy 10 that I am planning to move to a SB 13 that I recently acquired. I am not finding any Buck adjust thru backing plates for the L00 spindle available. What seems like the most reasonable way to go about this?
There's nothing exotic about an adjust-tru backing plate. In fact, they're kind of a sloppy fit in the chuck. That's what allows the adjustment. The only catch is the flange of the backing plate needs to be about 1.5" thick, 3/4 down in the 3.12 bore where the adjusting screws are and 3/4 for the 6 bolts that attach the chuck.
edit: You could weld a ring onto one of the commonly available backing plates (assuming it's steel and not C.I.) to create the 3.12 dia. snout. It isn't load bearing, it's just for locating.
