I didn't state my opinion. I stated that the guy who makes the WIC program tick has his heart in the right place and is a solid dude.

I do believe you are an owner of a manufacturing business and a liberal and if you are not selling modern art sculptures to public entities you are a rare breed, most of us are Republicans. I don't hate myself and I don't even hate the average liberal as I understand most of them are voting with their wallet. Like my neighbor who retired from USPS, I would expect him to be a liberal due to where he worked to earn a living. I do admit I hate the overly noisy liberal who likes to shove their beliefs down others throats and resort to petty name calling, cussing and belittling those that don't think like them, you are rapidly making that list.

As to my belief that most manufacturing business owners and managers are Republican, I invite anyone who is not and a customer of mine to stop doing business with me, I will put my money where my mouth is. I have at least a dozen or more past and present customers who are members here.

I'm a cynical old man who thinks all sides of these kinds of debates of are out of touch. Out of touch with some deep realities (usually people see one side but not the other.)

There has never been an 'equal' or 'equitable' society in all of history, and there are deep evolutionary reasons why there never will be. By my computation there's basically nobody alive today who doesn't have ancestors that at some point were slaves, serfs, or peasents - and serfs and peasents often got treatment very close to as bad as slaves did.

All really advanced economies (at least in the West) have a fair degree of redistribution - some by explicit state safety programs, some by various forms of graft/corruption, or weird structural rules. (So maybe there's no "saftey net" but it's literally impossible for your employer to fire you.) The US actually has dramatically more redistribution than some people like to count, but it's quite bizantine.

Were somewhat overly rich unemployment benefits early in the pandemic response encouraging labor to stay home? Yes, that was a goal! But some were getting paid more via UI than they would have made? Yes, and that was known and accepted because as large as government is, it has severe limits in it's ability to actualy administer things - UI systems blew up anyway in many states - making a rule that UI couldn't be more than say the average of your last 3 months pay would have blown them up even more.

Was (and is) that all bad? Yes. But finding a solution that is *practically executable* to do better is beyond us.

As for WIC and the less than ideal uses of resources observed - I think this one bugs people because it's visible in the grocery store. We don't see/think about things like the bizarre incentives in how health insurance works, the transfer of wealth *from* renters to buyers built into the mortgage interest deductions, people taking out home equity loans (with some tax subsidies on them) to do things like trips to Las Vegas, and so on.

At the scale of the United States, programs like medicare (which covers more people than the populations of most countries) will always have some level of fraud, and just stupid stuff, in them. They just will.

So what is Wheelie or any other employer of entry level low pay labor to do? I don't know, aside from suggesting that the difficulties are a reality that is not changing in our life times.

Next you are going to tell me I use foul language and hurl 3rd grade insults, please show me examples when you claim that. I admit I have a lack of empathy toward those that claim the victim mentality for issues that anyone who wasn't a crybaby would call life. It do find it strange that a lot of liberals consider me calling them what they are as an insult. To me liberals do nothing but make excuses for people, everyone who is a failure in life is a victim, personal responsibility no longer exists. Most of the victims I have encountered are nothing but victims of themselves.

Give me a vacation, I will just use this place to poach work and not contribute. Because of my ISP not giving me a static address I can reappear as someone else and you won't know it is me. Well, I haven't seen any "3rd grade level" insults. But, several personal attacks (insults) at members for just sharing their perspective (again, I'm guilty).

They aren't common in my neck of the woods, since I moved to Virginia 10 years ago, I ran across only one, at a stop at a gas station mini mart in Danville on the way back from picking up a servo motor I had repaired in North Carolina. 6'3" or so dude in high heels and a dress in front of me in line, with heavy make up with a 5 o'clock shadow poking though. How the hell anyone thinks that is fooling anyone or looks good is beyond me.

Personally I am giddy with joy that it exists, so that "this" stuff is vented over there, and not bleeding out everywhere else on the site.

If you find that board appalling, or whatever - simply don't go there.
It is honestly THAT simple!
I seldom ever go over there - as I am not interested in this drama.

Not saying that I dis-agree with what's said, but to say it back and forth for pages and then get heated and whatnot - it's just not my style, so I stay away.
Personally - I couldn't care less who runs that show over there.
