My first PM on Mits Machines, Anything to do before hand?

Hey all,

We have 2 MV4800 WEDMs that are long overdue for a PM service. I haven't been doing Wire all that long(8-9 months) and I decided it was probably time for a PM as our last records show that they haven't been serviced for almost 2 years. I've done an egregious amount of self service to these machines to get them to a "decent" state as our last wire guy left them with little service done to them at all.

My question to you all is there anything I need to do/or should do prior to the PM? Do they jut replace parts as they see fit i.e pulleys, rollers, etc., or do they just advise you to order new things that seem worn down?

Thanks,
-AGMantz

There are a number of seals and bearings that will run about $400, plus overnight shipping. The techs do not (at least in my area) bring a "basic maintenance" kit with them. You probably will have the drive belt replaced along with a few other items. The biggest thing is make sure to run the machine while the tech is still there. I just had a pm done earlier this month and had nothing but problems threading after the tech left. Turns out there where a few things that didn't get tightened back up and there was a pulsing in the drive roller.

The best thing you can do (at least for the future now you are running those machines yourself) is to keep your machine clean between jobs.

I have 4 AC's ( Cut20P, Cut30P, Cut E600 and an Cut P350).
Between jobs or at the end of the day when i dont have overnight work i rinse them well with the water hose of the machine.
Costs me maybe 2-3 mins. A day, but prevents the dirt to get dried in.
Especially the Cut20p and p350 which only runs on Titanium Looks almost brand new.

I also do the maintanance of the machines myself.
I always have most the parts to do a service in stock, from seals to bearings and simple "could break" parts.
Worst case if i find some worn/broken part i don't have it's shipped and delivered within 24h.

Oh man, I'm hoping a threading problem I currently have will be fixed after the PM not have more problems. I've done everything I could think of to get the damn thing threading again from cleaning lower and top head, taking apart the wire chopper, replacing nesting and so on but to no avail. I'll definitely be checking that my other machine still threads as well as it does now. Thanks for the tip.

Just leave the machine as is...they will...should...ask you questions as to problems and issues you are experiencing.
Perfect, whether they are going to ask me or not I've been writing all my issues that I haven't been able to fix on a notepad, hoping they can cross most of them off!

What's the actual problem?
Does it never thread? Or is it unreliable some times it does, sometimes it don't?

How far does the wire get while threading? Does it comes out the upper head? Does it goed into the lower head, and how far?

Its unreliable at threading from a Z height of 5.5 and under. Sometimes it'll thread at 5.5 but more often than not it doesn't thread. Any Z height above 6 and it threads perfectly every time.

When threading at the lower heights(5.5 and under) the wire will get to the lower roller and bottom nesting area and it won't automatically thread past there without me giving it a little push.
