Hi all I’m hoping some of you can help me with a few questions about a lathe I acquired. This is my first post but I have been a member for a while absorbing info and using it for work ( I’m a shop teacher in upstate ny).I finally started trying to get my home shed in order and I acquired a Nardini MSC 1440e. It needs a few major things and I know parts are nonexistent at this point but before I even go down that road I’m finding it impossible to find any information on the MSC model. I found a manual for an ms1440e and it came with a manual that was from nardini but was not from the machine. So any and all help on model history would be very helpful. I really don’t think their is a ton different on the msc from the manuals I have but the 2 things that have me scratching my head are the lead screw (which is a very fine pitch compared to anything I’ve ever seen) and the motor being from GE( at least that’s what it says on the sticker on the apron) I did hear some ware that their was a factory in the usa that made them for a bit but I couldn’t verify that. 9BCA22FD-029D-4CE5-8F41-5BA5EEDA6C13.jpgD4E090C8-1FDD-4B06-AE24-ACB85A3A95C3.jpgDF69A91A-907A-45D0-BABF-9CCF4A6DAC75.jpg9BCA22FD-029D-4CE5-8F41-5BA5EEDA6C13.jpgD4E090C8-1FDD-4B06-AE24-ACB85A3A95C3.jpgDF69A91A-907A-45D0-BABF-9CCF4A6DAC75.jpgAnyway thanks in advance for any and all in site on this for me

What you're calling the apron is the machine base or stand. The apron is where the hand wheel is mounted that drives on the rack gear. What is the tpi of the lead screw?

Looks like ours has a 4TPI lead screw

Thanks Bill for the info. I was just talking to someone in Ontario yesterday about info on the machine and they mentioned that at one point their was a manufacturing facility in the south that was producing them for a short time. And that made me wonder if it was when they had the clausing name associated with them.

Thanks for the pic! Yours is what I’ve seen a lot. Mine is odd. Do you know what the MSC is? Also could you send a pic of the hexagonal feed clutch set up please. That’s what I’m missing and since I can’t find anyone with parts I’m hoping I can retrofit something else in its place off a lathe I can get parts for

well that answers that question. thanks! if you get a chance could you take a pic of your feed drive clutch? the one that is attached to the hexagonal bar under the lead screw, I have no idea what it is supposed to look like since I don't have one and I'm desperately trying to figure out if I can replace it with something else I can get my hands on

Not sure this will be too helpful…
I think it just meshes with the drive lugs and adapts to the hex. The hex looks to be 16mm (.628” actually reading from my calipers)

that is great thanks! at least I can now see what it is supposed to look like, now if anyone has any ideas on how I can find something like that I would be forever grateful!

sorry, one more question what size is the hex? I can't express enough how much this helping!
