Hey Everybody,
We have a job that we do every couple of months that involves being coated with Teflon and then removing it from certain features. Masking these features isn't cost effective and is difficult for our vendor so we re-cut them after. I was wondering if any one knows of a good tool coating that is wear resistant or would be a effective choice. Currently we use HSS with no coating as it's cheap.

You need +ve rake with a razor sharp cutting edge to avoid flow around.

Is it a Teflon coating?
If so, what are you cutting below it?

We have a lot of parts that get a "teflon" style black paint over aluminum material. Had to cut a lot of it off after painting. We would just use a brand new 3fl aluminum carbide tool. Seemed to last just fine?

There should not be any wear problem removing Teflon. Teflon is one of the softest materials! Maybe you mean anodizing or a different type or hard coat?

Cheap can cost more in the long run.
Buy a 3 flute carbide. a 1/2" cutter will run you $50 give or take and you can run it faster.
UNLESS you need the sharpness of a HSS cutter, then you use HSS.
